Glenravel Young at Heart on a visit to Brussels

A LOCAL older people’s group recently enjoyed a visit to Brussels hosted by Sinn Fein MEP Martina Anderson.

Members of Glenravel Young at Heart Club joined members of the Top of the Hill group from Derry in a joint visit to the home of the European Union Parliament, where Ms Anderson has been an MEP since June.

The Young At Heart Club is a cross-community forum of Glenravel’s more senior residents, which provides entertainment and the opportunity to meet similar groups.

They have gone in the past to Stormont Castle and Bundoran, and received a visit from Ms Anderson’s predeccessor, Bairbre de Brún, but this is the furthest afield that the group has travelled.

Ms Anderson expressed her pleasure at hosting the group and said: “I was extremely pleased to host two groups of older people this past week in the EU Parliament as part of an active-ageing delegation.”

The visit was part of a drive to raise awareness of the elderly, and to change attitudes towards equality.
