Glens car thieves slammed by McKay

NORTH Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has condemned those who stole vehicles in the Glens on Monday night last and abandoned one in the middle of Cushendall which then resulted in a security alert.

Mr McKay said: "There is a great deal of anger in Cushendall at the actions of those who stole and abandoned this car particularly from residents in Moyle View who had been forced to evacuate their homes.

"Two cars were stolen in the area and whilst police were uncertain of whether this was solely a case of car crime or not the evacuations and controlled explosions caused immense distress to residents in this otherwise peaceful village."

This vehicle was later recovered at Moyle View in Cushendall and was examined by Army bomb experts.

Later, a silver Peugeot 307 was stolen from a house in the Dalriada area of Cushendall. A mobile phone and sets of car keys were also stolen.

In order to steal the Peugeot, another car was tampered with by the thieves.
