Glens Mother and Toddlers group gets £1,000

THE Glens of Antrim Irish Mother and Toddlers group - Tachráin na nGleann – is celebrating after being presented with a cheque for £1,000 towards new play equipment.

The generous donation was made to Coiste na nGleann, which runs the playgroup in Cushendun, by Lloyds TSB Foundation for Northern Ireland.

Trustee of the Foundation, Mr Brian Scott, visited the organisation last week and said they were delighted to be able to support the work of Coiste na nGleann.

He said: “The money will be used towards replacing old equipment, enhancing the enjoyment and learning of toddlers attending the group. We wish the organisation continuing success with their excellent work supporting families within the community.”

Lloyds TSB Foundation for Northern Ireland awards between £1.5 and £2 million annually in support of the Northern Ireland Community to enable people, especially disadvantaged or people with special needs, to play a fuller role in their community.

The parent and toddlers group was set up by Irish language committee Coiste na nGleann in September 2009 and runs every Thursday morning in Knocknacarry Parish Hall from 10am until 12 noon.

The group is open to all children of pre-school age. Already local children and parents, most of whom had no previous background in Irish language, have been enjoying learning through play, songs and stories.

The children have the opportunity to enjoy arts and crafts, learn new songs and play with an extensive range of educational toys - a healthy snack is also provided.

A warm welcome is extended to anyone in the area with pre-school children to come along to Knocknacarry Hall on Thursday mornings.
