'gLo' is going strong

Braving the rain and snow in their now familiar green t-shirts, they carried out odd jobs, organised a leaflet drop with information about the group and offered prayers at different spots across town.

It was rounded off with a fundraiser event at Mourneview Community Centre on Good Friday with music, games, face painting and food.

Tash Creaney, 20, from Banbridge, was the youngest member of gLo when it started off as a youth prayer group in 2004.

However, those who took part soon felt moved to take a more a proactive presence within the town.

Tash said: “We realised prayers sometimes need to grow hands and feet, and 130 decided to be those hands and feet.”

With 11 such events under her belt, Tash is now a gLo veteran and has gone on to become part of the central organising team.

She explained that gLo is not just for young people from one particular church or denomination. She said: “We get people from all different churches and even people who don’t belong to any church at all.”

She added: “It is an opportunity for people to play a positive role in the community.”
