Global star Jan Vogler in cityfestival launch

ONE of the biggest classical stars in the world will launch Londonderry’s Walled City Music Festival this Friday (June 22) in the Great Hall at Magee.

Jan Vogler, a concert cellist with a glittering global career, will perform in the city alongside Londonderry pianist Cathal Breslin on Friday at 8.00pm.

Mayor Cllr Kevin Campbell said he was delighted that Jan Vogler was performing in the city and encouraged the public to attend.

“This concert promises to be a fantastic event for classical music lovers in the city.

“He is a very versatile artist and has recorded for major record labels and performed as a soloist some of the most famous orchestras in the world. It’s a great chance to see two world class performers on one stage.”

The Mayor added that the Walled City Music Festival - now in its fourth year and scheduled to take place from July 27, 2012, to August 4, 2012 - continues to be a hugely successful event in the city.

“I am fully supportive of the work being done by the organizers to bring top quality classical music to the city. “The festival has been a great success to date and I know this year’s progamme offers an excellent array of musical performances.”
