Glowing tributes paid to Margaret

A life-long friend of Margaret Gray described her as a ‘remarkable woman’ as he paid tribute following her death in a car accident this week.

Dr Godfrey Brown had been a student with Margaret, the wife of former Presbyterian minister Dr Gordon who served in Lisburn for almost 30 years.

Margaret (78) died in a car crash on the Moygaret Road at Mosside just outside Ballymoney at around 2pm on Monday. Two other people were injured in the collision which involved two cars. They were taken to Causeway Hospital in Coleraine.

Margaret, a retired teacher, who lived at Kilcreg Park in Ballycastle had just recently returned from a holiday in Scotland when the tragedy occurred.

She grew up in Lisburn and taught some hardened and troubled criminals both in the loyalist and republican circles for many years.

She was highly respected and would teach inmates and young offenders English, cookery and history at Hydebank, Crumlin Road, the Maze and Maghaberry.

Dr Brown joined Queen’s University the same day Gordon and Margaret (nee Allen) became students in October 1953.
