Go for gold atLisburn Mayor’s Carnival Parade

ORGANISERS are going for gold in their efforts to make Lisburn City Mayor’s Carnival Parade the best ever.

This year’s carnival on Saturday May 12 takes the theme ‘Small Steps. Big Achievements’ and is inspired by the spirit of the Olympic Games in this 2012 landmark year.

A relay of breathtaking carnival floats, hundreds of carnival performers and flamboyant dancers displaying a mixture of sport and culture themes will ignite Lisburn’s streets in bursts of energy and glittering colour.

Spectators can expect to move to the adrenaline boosting sounds of samba and marching bands. Even more family fun waits at the Carnival Village in Wallace Park where entertainment includes fairground attractions, sporting arenas and vintage car displays.

Looking forward to the Lisburn’s biggest party, the Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Brian Heading said: “The preparations for this year’s Carnival are going really well. I am delighted by the number of Lisburn people showing their support and taking part. The creativity being expressed in our carnival workshops is just incredible and makes me proud to be Mayor of our city. It is obvious how much time and effort is going into the big day.

“Mayor’s Carnival is a great opportunity for families and visitors to Lisburn to get together in a riot of colour, creativity, community spirit and sporting endeavour.” Carnival organisers, advise spectators to choose their preferred spot early and to allow for some traffic disruption. The parade begins at 1pm at the Civic Centre and flows through Lisburn City centre ending at Wallace Park.

Fittingly, funds raised from this year’s Mayor’s Carnival will go to the official Mayoral charity, ‘Lisburn 2gether Special Olympics Club.’
