East Antrim SDLP Assemby candidate Margaret Anne McKillop has described the temporary closure of the Gobbins coastal path is a 'blow for the local tourism industry'.

The attraction is currently shut for repairs after the path sustained damage during Storm Frank last month.

Causeway Coast and Glens Councillor McKillop has now called on Mid and East Antrim Council to dedicate resources to ensure that the path can reopen as soon as possible.

She said: “The Gobbins path is a beautiful asset that showcases the stunning Antrim coastal landscape. The tourism potential of the north coast is one of our biggest assets and it’s important that we take every opportunity to invest in the local area.

“I’ll also be raising this matter with my SDLP colleagues in the Assembly to identify what assistance can be provided on a regional level to get the Gobbins back on track.”
