Gobbins scheme consultants are appointed

CONSULTANTS have been appointed to oversee Larne Borough Council’s exciting Gobbins Cliff Path project.

With construction due to begin in the autumn, RPS Consulting Engineers were chosen from a list of four to spearhead the scheme, after submitting a tender of £285,403.16.

The contract includes a visitor centre, work on both the cliff paths, as well as a playground.

The appointment was agreed at a confidential meeting of the council recently when - minutes indicate - Cllr Martin Wilson asked if the local authority could be assured that if the tender was accepted there would be no additional cost to the council.

The minutes show that chief executive Geraldine McGahey replied that this “could not be ascertained” as the tender was only in terms of the integrated design team. If an additional survey was required, it might incur extra cost, but she thought that most points had been addressed within the submission.
