‘Gobbins will rival Giants Causeway’

Work is expected to be completed on the Islandmagee tourist attraction in late March, and it is hoped that it can eventually draw at least 70,000 visitors a year

Speaking during DETI Oral Questions at the Northern Ireland Assembly recently, DUP representative Mr Ross said: “Northern Ireland has a number of world class tourist attractions, not least in the Causeway Coast and Glens area.

“The Gobbins used to be one of the top attractions in Northern Ireland, and can again attract overseas visitors to East Antrim when it reopens later this year.

“It is important that local businesses fully utilise the opportunities that this can bring them, as more visitors come to the local area.

“I genuinely believe that the Gobbins Path will rival the Giants Causeway in terms of visitors and I would congratulate all of those involved in the project to restore the path,” Mr Ross concluded.

The Gobbins Cliff Path was originally built in 1902, but the attraction fell into disrepair and was closed to the public in 1954.
