God is in everyday things

THERE is a story about a man and his young daughter driving along one of the main streets of a town, taking the extra precautions that are necessary, when the roads are wet and dangerous.

Suddenly, the daughter said 'Dad, I'm thinking of something.'

This usually meant, she had been thinking about some fact for a while, and was now ready to expound all her six-year-old mind had discovered. Eager to hear this pearl of wisdom he asked: 'What are you thinking? '

‘The rain!' she began, 'is like sin, and the windshield wipers are like God wiping our sins away.'

He was astounded but then his curiosity broke in. How far would this little girl take this revelation? So he asked... 'Do you notice how the rain keeps on coming? What does that tell you?'

The six year old girl didn't hesitate one moment with her answer, ‘We keep on sinning and God just keeps on forgiving us.'

What a lesson from such a simple thing as windscreen wipers.

You see God is in the everyday things…. We just need to notice Him.

If you are familiar with the New Testament you will find that Jesus was in the everyday situations…. He was a guest at a wedding…. Just when he was needed - when the wine ran out…….He was walking along many a dusty road….just when he was needed - to meet the needs of a blind man, a crooked tax collector, a woman with a long term illness….. He was by the side of a lake…just when he was needed - to encourage weary fishermen.

He was alone in a garden – not this time when he was needed… but when He needed to speak with his Father. All everyday occurrences which teach us lessons just like the little girl with the windscreen wipers.

As you go through this week… look out for signs of God in your everyday life. You won’t be disappointed.
