Going the extra mile for sport relief in Lurgan Park

LURGAN Park was transformed into a hive of activity last Sunday as budding athletes from across the Borough and beyond donned their running gear to take part in the bi-annual Sport Relief Mile 2012.

Over 300 seasoned runners and novices alike with big hearts and healthy lungs ran either one, three or six-miles to raise money for Sport Relief, the high profile charity event organised by Comic Relief which uses everything that’s good about sport to change lives for the better. All the money raised is spent by Comic Relief to help vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives both in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.

Chair of the Leisure Services Committee, Alderman Mrs Meta Crozier, started the race and commented: “This is the third time Lurgan Park has hosted this exciting event and I am absolutely delighted to see so many people, both young and old, from across the Borough and beyond taking part, getting sponsored and raising money for this very worthy cause.”

Following the race, there was balloon modelling, facing painting, bouncy castles and disco dancing for the young ones to enjoy. Active Community coaches also offered exciting taster sessions in tennis, archery, football and volleyball for everyone to try out and enjoy!
