Golden Girl Mary encourages groups to aim high

DAME Mary Peters joined Volunteer Now at an event to promote The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award, a prestigous award for volunteer groups within local communities.

Sandra Adair, Director of Policy and Capacity Building, Volunteer Now, explained, “The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, celebrating its 10th anniversary, is the highest Award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work carried out in their own communities. The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award for 2012 is a new Award to mark the Diamond Jubilee and will encourage nominations from national organisations involved in volunteering activities, including the Olympic and Paralympic games and their legacy.”

Sandra continued: “If you know of any group of volunteers within your area and would like to nominate them for either of these awards, applications are open until 30th September 2012 and are available from www.direct.gov.uk/qavs”
