Golf Gala Day to aid little Eva’s brain cancer battle

Hearing that his close friends’ two-year-old granddaughter had brain cancer prompted a local man to organise a charity golf fundraiser.

Retired school principal Derick Napier was very moved by the tragic news that little Eva Pierce was diagnosed with this life-threatening disease.

The two-year-old is the grandchild of his close friends George and Joan Stevenson who live close to him on Lurgan’s Dromore Road.

The Stevenson and Napier families have been friends for generations and Derick, a former Captain at Banbridge Golf Club, decided to organise Golf Gala Day to help raise funds to pay for the intrusive and intensive treatment Eva needs in the USA.

She was diagnosed in March, just before her second birthday with a grade 3 Anaplastic Ependymoma (brain cancer). Currently she is awaiting a reply from referral for Proton Therapy in the USA.

Derick, a former principal of Dundonald High School, will host the golf classic on September 20. The format will be a four-ball team classic with a team of four costing £100 including a meal.

A special raffle will also be held with superb prizes including a helicopter tour of Strangford Lough with a stopover for dinner for two at Harrisons of Greyabbey.

There are still team slots available and if you would like to join in or donate, contact Derick on 07889 923340.
