Golf tourism ‘must include local courses’

East Antrim MLA Oliver McMullan has said that any future strategy to create job opportunities along the Causeway coast through golf tourism must also include the Glens and Antrim coast area.

Mr McMullan said: “At the Assembly Mr Gregory Campbell asked the Minister of Enterprise Trade and Development what opportunities could be created through the promotion of golf tourism along the Causeway Coast.

“I challenged Mr Campbell to include the Glens in the strategy so that it is inclusive of the entire region, he said.

“I have been assured by the Minister that any strategy will also include the Glens as the Causeway Coast and the Glens are a brand name together in the Programme for Government.

“While the golf course at Royal Portrush is known across the world there are many other courses including Ballycastle, Cushendall and Cairndhu that also provide first class courses for all range of golfers.

“If we are to make a success of golf tourism we must promote the region as a whole as promoting one course or small area will only end in failure,” said the Sinn Fein representative.
