Golfers 'putting' the weather to one side

DESPITE the freezing conditions golfers at Edenmore were able to stage a winner takes all competition at the weekend.

With the course closed, members turned out for a breakfast in support of the club and staged a unique indoor putting competition.

Edenmore General Manager Deaglan O’Hagan explained: “The last competition we had was Saturday week ago - the day after New Year’s Day. The course has been closed since that.

“We tried opening nine holes on Monday past. The boys who went out lasted about six holes. It was too cold.”

But not to let the cold snap dampen spirits, about 30 members came up to the club on Saturday for a big breakfast to support the club.

Deaglan said: “After the breakfast they held an indoor putting competition, putting onto a 20 note. Tom Crooks won the competition.”

He added: “It was great to see the members getting together. There’s a small possibility that we could be back up and running this weekend.”
