Dollingstown 5 Lower Maze 1

DOLLINGSTOWN responded well to defeat with a convincing home win over Lower Maze.

It keeps the defending champions in touch with leaders Warrenpoint in the title race.

Saturday's game looked like a tricky fixture with Lower Maze in good form. However, Dollingstown were on the front foot from the kick-off.

Town's front three of Thompson, Montgomery and Gregg made their intentions clear in the opening moments when some fine play carved an opening for top scorer Gregg.

Adam Montgomery linked up play as Town stretched an over worked Maze rearguard.

On 10 minutes Ashley Gregg cut in from the right and produced a brilliant low finish. Moments later it was almost two when Wright headed over from a corner.

At the other end a rare attack almost produced an equaliser for Maze which saw Crawford produce a good point blank save.

Town's pace in attacking areas was a constant menace and on 32 minutes a quick break made it 2-0. Ashley Gregg’s run from his own half evaded two challenges before rounding the keeper and rolling the ball over the line.

Dollingstown failed to clear their lines two minutes in to the second half allowing Maze back into the game.

Denver and Walker were getting forward well from fullback and Wing had a steady game.

A fine passing move on 55 minutes produced Town's third and killer goal. Ashley Gregg who was back to his best got his hat-trick goal with a left foot finish.

On 59 minutes strike partner Montgomery was hauled down in the box for a penalty only to balloon his spot kick over the bar. The impressive frontman was to make amends on 65 minutes when he produced the finish of the game by guiding a sweet half volley beyond the keeper's reach.

It was all Dollingstown and chances came and went before the fifth goal in the 88th minute.

Moffett caused problems from a corner and was pushed to the ground in the resultant goalmouth scramble. Lawson fired in off the keeper to make the final score 5-1.

It was a solid performance by the whole team but Man of the Match was Ashley Gregg whose finishing was back to its clinical best. The Club and committee thanked Sporties Barbers of Lurgan for sponsoring Saturdays match.
