Good luck to Ronan Blaney at the Oscars

Ronan Blaney is heading for the red carpet in Hollywood tonight and hoping to bring an Oscar back to Lurgan.

The local teacher and his family are having a nailbiting few hours before the final result is announced at the ceremony in Los Angeles.

Already the Brownlow College teacher has returned to Lurgan with a BAFTA after writing the celebrated short film Boogaloo and Graham.

The film is shortlisted in the live action short category of the Oscars.

Dr Blaney spoke to the ‘MAIL’ last week ahead of his flight to LA where he will be wining and dining with Hollywood’s finest.

He spoke of the glittering night at the BAFTAs in London and what inspired him to write the award-winning script.

The film, directed by Michael Lennox is set in 1970s Belfast.

Boogaloo and Graham is about two young boys who discover the facts of life with the help of their pet chickens.

This year’s Academy awards ceremony will be held tonight Sunday 22 February at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
