Google puts Londonderry on the map

LONDONDERRY appeared on Google's amazing new Street View UK service when the A6 dual carriageway was uploaded to the internet search engine last week.

The service was officially launched in the United Kingdom last March but finally arrived in Londonderry when nineteen National Trust properties and landscapes were added to the site.

Public Affairs Manager at Google Laura Scott explained that main arterial routes will sometimes be uploaded as a by product of other updates and the addition of the A6 Londonderry to Belfast was not part of an official roll-out of new streets to the internet site.

She said the roadway - which traverses Drumahoe, Tullyally and Altnagelvin as far as the Crescent Link - became available on Street View when the firm added National Trust properties Hezlett House and Mount Stewart House in Northern Ireland to the site last week.

Now internet users can view amazing high resolution photographs of some popular Londonderry landmarks from the comfort of their own homes.

Ms Scott said Google has not set a date for the further roll-out of Street View UK in Londonderry but suggested the entire city will be uploaded at some point in the future.
