Google team up with Ballyclare High

Representatives from IT giant Google recently visited Ballyclare High School to pilot work for their Expeditions programme.

The Google Expeditions programme is a virtual reality platform built for the classroom.

The Google team work with teachers and content partners from around the world to create more than 100 engaging journeys - making it easy to immerse students in entirely new experiences. They have visited only a few selected schools around the world, including the United States, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Canada, Singapore, Denmark and Mexico.

The Google team visited on Thursday. April 28. They brought a complete Expeditions kit which included everything the teachers needed to take their students on journeys anywhere.

Mr Shaw, ICT Strategy Leader at the Rashee Road school said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to part of the Google Expeditions programme. Our pupils got to experience virtual reality trips ranging from the Grand Canyon, Mt Everest, The Human Digestive System, Palace of Versailles, The Globe Theatre and Mars.

He also added “Ballyclare High School has historically been at the forefront of new technologies and creating innovative teaching practices to help our pupils learn and this adds another strand. The pupils were immersed in this throughout the day and judging by the excitement and energy displayed by the pupils the day was a real success”.
