Staff and customers of Gordons Chemist in Ballymoney have come together once again to raise an incredible £17,274 for Action Cancer throughout 2015.

The partnership between Action Cancer and Gordons Chemists, which is now in its 8th year, has been a roaring success to date. Staff have engaged in all sorts of wonderful ways to raise funds over the years, including sponsored cycles, raffles, onesie to work days and of course donned their pink wigs and tutus throughout October, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Gordons have been huge supporters of both Breast Cancer Awareness Month (through their own Breast Action Day), and Action Cancer’s Safe Sun campaign.

Gillian Thomson, Corporate Fundraising Officer with the charity said, “The generosity shown by the customers and staff at Gordons Chemists has yet again been truly inspiring. Every year, Gordons Chemists play a massive role in the work we do both in terms of raising funds and raising awareness, especially throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We are so grateful to everyone at Gordons for their continuous support of Action Cancer since 2007. And to smash a £200,000 total in the 8th year of the partnership is amazing.”

Ryan Gordon, Gordons Chemists said, “We’re extremely proud to have reached this fundraising milestone, and to see the partnership that we have with Action Cancer grow from strength to strength. Our staff across Northern Ireland are the real heroes here – they work tirelessly throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month to collect donations, and they’re passionate about making sure that our customers know of the potentially life-saving services that Action Cancer can offer them.

“Our patients and customers have also played a massive part by donating so generously, and it’s these who inspire us to keep on supporting Action Cancer. We know that the money we raise for Action Cancer goes directly towards saving lives. We’ve seen a significant number of our customers have a cancer detected, because of a screening made available to them by Action Cancer, and because a member of our staff encouraged them to make an appointment.

“We provide a healthcare service in many of Northern Ireland’s towns and villages and we strongly believe that we have a duty to make a positive impact on the neighbourhoods where we serve. Supporting Action Cancer is an important part of how we do that. For us at Gordons Chemists, those affected by cancer in Northern Ireland live in the neighbourhoods where we work. Many are our customers, or the patients that we serve. Supporting Action Cancer is just one of the ways that we try to give something back to the communities we work in.”
