Grace steps out in aid of Cancer Focus NI

Grace McNeill walked through 10 towns in aid of Cancer Focus Northern Ireland’s Think Pink breast cancer awareness campaign.

The mother-of-three, who was diagnosed in April, is determined to beat the disease and has encouraged other women to check themselves regularly and go to the doctor with any health concerns.

Breast cancer is now the most common form of cancer in women in Northern Ireland, with more than 1,000 diagnosed with the disease each year. There are currently around 10,000 local women with a breast cancer diagnosis, but survival rates are steadily improving.

The Think Pink campaign highlights the help available for these patients.

Suzi McIlwain, community fundraiser for Cancer Focus said: “We are very grateful that Grace and her family chose to support us by fundraising and donating clothing and items from her wedding to be sold in our shops.

“All of the money raised will be spent in Northern Ireland to ensure that the charity’s free services for women with breast cancer can continue.”

Grace thanked her friends, family, and local businesses for all of the support through her fundraising and cancer treatment.

In particular, she paid tribute to Pastor Terry Fittis and his wife Sandra of Larne Elim.

Suzi added: “Cancer Focus relies entirely on the public to raise funds for services that breast cancer patients can use free of charge.

“These include support groups, bra and swimwear fitting service, counselling, art therapy, creative writing, walking groups, Beauty for Life, family support and a freephone information and support helpline – 0800 783 3339.”

Cancer Focus is also the chosen charity for the first ever Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon and Fun Run on September 22.
