Gracehill and Galgorm WI hold December meeting

THE PRESIDENT Barbara Totten, welcomed everyone to the December meeting of Gracehill and Galgorm W.I.

There were two special visitors, Libby and Marjorie, sisters of the late Mrs Anne Sambrook.

They had come on Anne’s daughter Carol’s behalf to present a memorial trophy to the institute.This will be an annual award which all members can compete for.

Mrs Sambrook was a founder member of the Gracehill and Galgorm Craft Class. She was an extremely talented lady who freely gave of her time to help others who were keen to develop their skills. She had also been Institute President on a number of occasions and made valuable contributions in her service on committee and as a member in general.

Mrs Avril Chapman presented a substantial cheque to Barbara Totten, on behalf of fellow crafters, which will be passed on to ACWW. Mrs. Sambrook had been the Gracehill and Galgorm representative for many years, and had worked hard to promote and support the invaluable work which the Associated Country Women of the World continues to do providing practical help to women and communities throughout the world.

After the business of the meeting was completed, Avril Chapman, Heather Hogg and Pam Boreland were in charge and the members participated in festive activities which they had arranged. After a great deal of hilarity, a delicious supper, which had been prepared by the committee, was enjoyed by everyone.

The monthly competition to complete a limerick, ‘Christmas comes but once a year...‘was won by Roseli Stevenson.

Mary Simpson came second and Betty Monteith was third.The evening concluded with the singing of carols and Mrs Totten wished everyone a very happy Christmas and a safe journey home.
