Graffiti daubed on Irish bilingual sign

A GRAFFITI attack on a bilingual sign at the entrance to Ballycastle which features Irish has been condemned by the Sinn Fein Chairperson of Moyle Council, Cara McShane.

The sign at Clare Road features the word Ballycastle in English and below it is the Irish version - Baile an Chaisleain.

But somebody sprayed over the Irish words whilst the word ‘Taig’ was sprayed over the top of the ‘Ballycastle’.

Elsewhere on the sign the words ‘Norn Iron’ were also sprayed.

Cllr McShane - who has her address in Irish on the official Moyle Council website - slammed the graffiti attack.

She told the Times: “This was wanton vandalism and it shows an intolerance of culture and reflects badly on whoever did this.

“I will be in touch with the Technical Services Department of the Council to get this graffiti removed.”
