Grammar ‘honoured’ with Loughridge link

Many former pupils of the school have benefitted from the Loughridge Bursary which has been made annually for many years to the student resident in the (former) Carrickfergus Borough who enters medical school with the highest A-Level performance.

The signatories to the Carrickfergus Grammar School Trust - Kieran Mulvenna (principal), Maurice Smith, (chair of the board of governors), Harry Grainger, Michael Sinclair and Roisin White - expressed their gratitude to the Trustees of the Dr WM Loughridge Trust for the transfer of the Loughridge Trust monies to the school’s Trust Fund.

Kieran Mulvenna, principal of the school, commented: “We do not underestimate the significance of this decision by the Loughridge Trustees and will ensure that the benevolence accorded to so many young people of the Carrickfergus Borough in the late Dr Loughridge’s name shall be respected and continued by our offices.

“Dr Loughridge’s son, Dale, is a former pupil of Carrickfergus Grammar School so the connection made so many years ago remains very much alive today.”

The monies shall now be assimilated into the school’s Trust Fund which exists for the purposes of supporting the educational endeavours of members of the school who might otherwise find themselves at a disadvantage.

Dr Loughridge practised in Carrickfergus for 37 years and his influence on the quality of life in the borough was considerable because he not only served his patients with dedication and great skill but also made an outstanding contribution to the community through his many and varied interests.
