Grammar pupils enjoy tour of Kilwaughter plant

There was a buzz about Kilwaughter Chemical Company recently as pupils from Larne Grammar School took part in two interactive site visits.

The local pupils joined young people from Carrick College on Wednesday, June 13 and Wednesday, June 20 for a tour of the quarry, mill and manufacturing plant, with the opportunity to get hands on with some of the company’s products.

The inquisitive pupils were given some career advice and also got the chance to learn about the biodiversity management of the site, getting up close and personal with some of the wildlife common to the habitat.

Simon McDowell, managing director at Kilwaughter Chemical Company, said: “We are committed to supporting the development of young people and recognise the need to prepare students for life after school and encourage them to reach their full potential.

“Over the last couple of years we have organised educational school visits for local pupils.

“As a well known business in the area, we believe the visits are an excellent chance for students to learn about the company’s activities, types of job roles available in the industry whilst improving their knowledge and expectations of the work place.

“To date these visits have been a great success and we were delighted to facilitate the opportunity again this year,” Mr McDowell concluded.
