Grammar’s new principal ‘delighted’ with GCSE results

LARNE Grammar School’s new principal has warmly congratulated pupils on their success in this year’s GCSE results.

Following on from last week’s excellent A Level results, pupils and staff at the school are once again celebrating after 43 per cent of GCSE entries were awarded either an A* or an A grade, with over 14 per cent awarded the top grade.

A total of 93 per cent of pupils gained at least seven GCSE passes at grades A*-C, a figure that compares favourably with the top achieving schools in the country.

Incoming principal Jonathan Wylie, who recently succeeded John Wilson, said he was “delighted” with this year’s set of results.

He added: “I also want to thank the staff of the school who have enabled our pupils to fulfil their potential. I look forward to welcoming the vast majority of our Year 12 pupils back into Year 13 to begin their A Level studies.”

Top Year 12 pupil Judith Cameron gained a magnificent nine A*s and one A, with Kirtsy McKinty (eight A*s and two As), Lauren Cameron and Kerry Ramsay (both seven A*s and three As) close behind.

In addition, a further 18 pupils achieved at least eight GCSEs at grade A or above. Between them, these students - Sarah Booth, Polina Crawford, Lucy McDowell, David McDowell, Emma Robinson, Jasmine Baart, Jenna Guthrie, Jenna Mulholland, Danielle McCullough, Lee Murray, Michael Wilson, Scott Copeland, Nicole McDowell, Allister Irvine, Callum Oakley, Hollye Hamilton, Kerry McIlwaine and Perri Sittlington – gained a combined total of 57 A*s and 101 A grades.
