Grand Master and deputy to attend local Twelfth

THE leader of the Orange Order and his deputy will both attend this year’s Twelfth in Limavady.

Approximately 5,000 people are expected to take part in the main County Londonderry parade through Limavady with twice that number lining the streets. It is four years since the Twelfth was held in the town.

The guest speaker will be Edward Stevenson, Grand Master of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland.

The Deputy Grand Master, Rev. Alistair Smyth, who is from the Limavady area, will propose the resolutions.

The demonstration field is at Roemill Road where the religious address will be given by Rev. John Noble, Balteagh and Boveva Presbyterian Church.

The platform proceedings will be chaired by the County Grand Master George Duddy.

This is a significant year in the history of Limavady District LOL No.6 as it is celebrating its 200th anniversary.

Ballykelly LOL 699 will have a new banner on parade. Dungiven LOL 2036 are 50 years old this year and Dungiven Flute band are five years old.

Among those on parade will be Jonathan Holmes – District Secretary & Young Orangeman of the Year 2010, Sam Carmichael – Dungiven LOL 2036, winner of the district Exceptional Service medal and Harold Glendinning and William Hamilton, both senior members of Ballynarrig LOL 650 who received Exceptional Service and Long Service District medals in 2010.

William Hamilton has been Treasurer of his Lodge from September 1942 and assisted in the building of Ballynarrig Orange Hall.

Harold Glendinning has been District Lecturer and heavily involved in the Junior Orange movement for many years, and helped found the Limavady District Junior Lodge.

The main parade in Limavady begins at mid-day and will be headed up by County officers, district officers and invited guests.

The parade will make its way to the demonstration field in the following order – Limavady district, Coleraine district, Macosquin district, and City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge and districts.

The route will be Church Street,Ballyclose Street, Main street, Linenhall Street, Catherine Street – stopping at the War Memorial where a wreath will be laid by the Grand Master – Roemill Road, William Street, Catherine Street, Irish Green Street, Rosemill Gardens, Roemill Road and the Limavady Orange Field.

The return parade will be at 3.45pm.

The parade will go via Roemill Road, Rathbrday Road, Masey Avenue and Protestant Street, where the Grand Master will stop and take the salute from a platform.
