Grant aid for buildings

THE new Environment Minister, Alex Attwood has re-opened the £2.87million grant aid scheme for historic listed buildings.

The Minister said he was lifting the temporary suspension on historic buildings grant-aid which had been in place since December 2010. Now grants up to a maximum of £50,000 will be available.

There are three exceptions to the scheme: Thatched buildings, those listed buildings on the Built Heritage at Risk (NI) register, and applicants in receipt of certain qualifying benefits. For prudent financial management it is no longer possible to retain the £250,000 cap for these three ‘excepted’ categories, will also be capped at £50,000.

The suspension was necessary due to the high demand for the grant-aid.
