Grants available for Christmas switch-on events

BANBRIDGE District Council has launched its annual Christmas Grants scheme enabling local community groups to apply for funding to assist in the organisation of Christmas lights switch-on events.

The grants scheme was introduced last year when many local community groups took up the opportunity to celebrate the festive season in their own special way.

Giving local communities greater input into the planning and organising of Christmas celebrations proved very successful and it is hoped that this year the grants scheme will be as popular.

Grants up to £1,000 will be offered to any umbrella community group who wishes to co-ordinate festivities in any part of the district other than Banbridge town.

The maximum amount awarded will depend on the size of the community and the number of people that the event will cater for. To allow groups enough time to plan their event, the Christmas Grants scheme is open for application until Friday 21 October 2011.

Further information and application forms are available from the Council’s Community and Enterprise Department, which can be contacted on 4066 0609.
