“Her Majesty has always given sterling service in her role as Monarch, and, as the head of the Royal Family, is revered for her work and her dedication.

“As a mark of respect, the Council wishes to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, and I would encourage our local community groups to get involved and apply for grant-aid.”

Alderman Paul Porter said: “As the Chairman of the Leisure and Community Development Committee, I was very much in favour of the Council making provision for local groups in the area being given the opportunity to make plans for the Queen’s 90th birthday.

“The closing date is Thursday 28th April, so hopefully that gives groups time to apply for funding.”
