Grass route for Rangers

IN A surprise twist that is likely to please football traditionalists in the town Carrick Rangers are to revert to playing on a grass surface at Taylor’s Avenue in the new year.

The newly promoted Carling Premierships outfit has had to revise plans to lay a 3G artificial surface at the ground after, it is understood, problems with the substrata of the pitch were discovered during site investigation.

Michael Hughes, majority shareholder at the club, which is currently ground sharing with Crusaders at Seaview, confirmed the amount of excavation required to overcome the technical issue would have rendered the project economically unviable.
