Grateful parents stage second charity shoot

JUST over three years after once keen archer Stephanie Shannon was badly injured in an accident on Dromore’s Ballynahinch Road, her family is planning to stage a second fundraising archery shoot in aid of the Child Brain Injury Trust.

Following her accident in March 2010, Stephanie was in a coma for more than two weeks, paralysed, and underwent a double craniotomy to relieve the pressure on her brain.

Since then, said mum Deirdre, Stephanie has been focused on rebuilding her life.

Later in 2010 Stephanie’s grateful parents Deidre and Brian held a fun archery shoot in aid of the CBIT, who have been “fantastic”, said Deirdre, since their youngest daughter’s accident.

Now, plans are being finalised for a second shoot at the family home at 6 Drumaknockan Road, Hillsborough, drawing archers from all over Northern Ireland in support, after so many lamented having missed the first event.

“There are a vast array of unusual ballot prizes and the medals and trophies are being provided by Seamus McGreevy of Greenan Trophies and Banbridge Archery Club, said Deirdre, who added that insurance was being provided by the Northern Ireland Field Archery Association.

“The shoot starts at 11am and there will be loads of cakes, cookies etc to satisfy the hungry archers at the end of the shoot.”

The shoot is to take place on Sunday, May 19, with registration from 10am, and is open to any member of any of archery’s governing bodies – IFAA/AGB/IAAA – but they must produce a valid membership card to shoot (no paper receipts).

Featuring 18 mixed targets plus “lots of goodies, fun and prizes”, the shoot costs £7 for archers aged 16 and over, £4 for Juniors, 15 years and under. Entry cost includes tea/coffee, cakes and cookies. Bring your own lunch. All money raised will go to the Child Brain Injury Trust.

Said Deirdre, “Thank you to NIFAA who have provided the insurance, equipment and stewards and to Banbridge Archery Club who have provided the trophies and medals.

“A great range of prizes will be up for grabs in the raffle but if you would like to contribute more it would be appreciated.”
