'Grave concern' over flats plan

PLANS to build 10 two-bedroom apartments, with car parking facilities, in Carnlough have been given the green light.

The development, to be located at 8-12 Harbour Road and at a site adjacent to 7 Harbour Road, will also see the demolition of a taller 19th century building. The application, by Liam O’Neill of Bay Road in the village, was approved by planners who revealed they received nine objection letters.

At the latest meeting of the council’s public services committee, Alderman Danny O’Connor said he had “grave concerns” about the application.

He added: “I want to register my opposition to this proposal. It seems to me that there has been a build-up of applications for apartments along the shorefront at Carnlough and I am not sure the village’s infrastructure can handle it. I also feel that this would take away from the overall character of the area.”
