PLAYING in difficult conditions due to the persistant rain both Tullyally Colts and Newbuildings Reserves struggled to get their passing game going.

The home side took the lead midway through the first half when a ball was slipped through for Richmond to run on to and he slotted the ball past the advancing Glenn into the Newbuildings net from 12 yards out.

The Colts increased their lead shortly afterwards when a Newbuildings defender slipped allowing Richmond through again and he grabbed his second of the game, dispatching the ball into the back of the net from close range. The home side hit a third just before half-time when their left sided midfielder, crossed low into the box and despite a good save from close range by Glenn the rebound fell to Kane who fired home from six yards out.

Some stern words at halftime and the introduction of Robinson and King saw Newbuildings on the front foot at the start of the second half. They pulled one goal back soon afterwards when Robinson's shot was parried into the path of Buchanan who scored from a tight angle. Newbuildings were on top now and grabbed their second when Robinson headed home a cross from the right at the back post.

The home side restored their two goal advantage when a defensive mistake saw Newbuildings give the ball away on the edge of their box allowing the Tullyally midfielder to score from 15 yards out.

Newbuildings continued to push forward and another cross from the right saw King head past the advancing Watson to make it 4-3. Elliot almost levelled the game when his 25-yard free kick came crashing back off the crossbar but the same player made no mistake soon after, when he rifled home from 18 yards, giving Watson no chance.

Credit must go to both teams who produced a thrilling game in atrocious conditions.
