Green Flag status sought for MEA sites

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is to apply for Green Flag status for three new sites next year.

It comes after four green spaces in the council area achieved the benchmark earlier this year: Diamond Jubilee Wood and Bashfordsland Wood/Oakfield Glen in Carrickfergus; Dixon Park in Larne, and the People’s Park, Ballymena.

During Monday night’s meeting of the Operational Committee, it was agreed that Eden Allotment Gardens in Carrick, Ballymena’s ECOS Centre, and Carnfunnock Country Park in Larne be entered for consideration in 2016.

Each application costs £650 plus VAT, with a tiered pricing scheme if the local authority has more than four sites, members were told.

The total cost to council of entering next year would be £1,875.
