Green light for new filter lane at Dunmurry

Dunmurry Community Association, together with local politicians, have campaigned for seven years for the right turn lane at the busy intersection.

The new lane was given the go ahead by the Roads Minister Danny Kennedy late last year and has now finally been installed.

Lagan Valley MLA Jonathan Craig welcome the installation.

“This has been a long running campaign to have this junction upgraded, with many meetings with Road Service, which culminated with an on-site meeting with the Roads Minister last year, where he saw first-hand the dangers of this junction,” said Mr Craig. “It was very clear from the outset of the meeting, that the Minister shared many of the concerns of the local community and as a result of the meeting, we have seen the Roads Service carry out this much needed work.

“I would like to thank the Dunmurry Community Association and local residents for the very effective campaign that has resulted in the upgrade.

“ The new filter light will reduce the amount of traffic using Ulster Avenue and Church Avenue, which has been a major concern for local residents.

“I would also like to publicly thank the Minister for taking on-board our concerns and having this much needed work carried out.”

The Mayor of Lisburn Councillor Margaret Tolerton said: “The much anticipated filter light at this busy junction will be welcomed by local residents and the many motorists that use this junction and I would publicly thank all those who played their part in achieving this much needed filter light in Dunmurry.”

Local community worker Billy Thompson expressed his delight at the move.

“On behalf of Dunmurry Community Association and local residents living in Dunmurry Village, I would like to thank Jonathan and Margaret for all their help and advice over our long battle to have a filter lane heading onto Dunmurry Lane installed,” said Mr. Thompson.
