Green light for new pedestrian crossing point

Roads Service has given the green light for the construction of a new pedestrian crossing point on Church Road, close to Abbey Retail Park.

The crossing point on the busy road will be near the Glenmount residential area.

North Belfast MLA Paula Bradley, who has backed local residents in their campaign for a proper crossing, welcomed the decision.

“I am delighted with news from Roads Service that approval has been given for a new pedestrian crossing point at Church Road. This section of the Church Road is particularly busy and it can be incredibly difficult for residents to cross the road and access local shops.

“Roads Service carried out a detailed traffic assessment in the area and I am pleased that they have now approved work for a new pedestrian island and dropped kerbs near to the entrance of Glenmount Manor. This work is to be carried out within the current financial year,” the DUP representative said.

“My colleague, Cllr Thomas Hogg, and I have been working with local residents on this issue for some months and we are delighted with this very positive outcome. The residents are to be commended for lobbying so robustly on this important road safety issue,” she added.
