Green Party reveals candidate
Environmental scientist Dr Daniel Barrios-O'Neill has announced that he will stand for election in Lagan Valley for the Green Party.
Daniel Barrios-O’Neill said, “I am a scientist concerned with global change, sustainability and ecology.
“I have spent many years working to understand and to protect our environment.
“However, I believe that the key to ensuring a sustainable future for all lies in redressing enormous and growing inequalities that today characterise our society.
“I would like to see properly resourced mental health services in Lagan Valley, to see adequate welfare support for those who are unemployed or on low incomes, and to see my LGBTQ friends afforded equal rights under the law. For too long, parochialism has dominated the agenda at Stormont.
“Our society and environment has paid a hefty price for this, and opportunities to improve life for everyone continue to be squandered.
“As your Green Party candidate, I will fight for a fairer society, for a cleaner, more accessible environment, and for a functioning, accountable assembly.
“If like me, you are disaffected and disillusioned by parochialism, and wish to see progressive politics in Lagan Valley, then don’t waste your vote; please vote Green on Thursday the 5th of May.”
Green Party leader Steven Agnew MLA said,“I am delighted that Daniel Barrios-O’Neill is standing as the Green Party’s Lagan Valley candidate. He is fantastic advocate for equality and the environment.”
