Greenisland Brownies’ joy over TV ‘spot’

A Greenisland Brownie group joined forces last week with children’s show Blue Peter to create the world’s longest superhero cape.

The 1st Greenisland Brownies were one of 100 Girlguiding groups across the UK taking part in the record-breaking challenge.

They produced a colourful ‘spot’, one of many to adorn the enormous 44-metre cape which was unveiled live on Blue Peter last Thursday to mark Children in Need.

Outlining the youngsters’ delight at seeing their creation on national television was group leader, Catherine Murphy.

“We did see our spot on Blue Peter and several of the girls watched it on iPlayer to catch it,” she said.

“They were so excited that we’d been part of this and that we had helped with a world record.”

Next on the agenda for the group is a food bank collection on December 1. “All the girls are being asked to bring something as part of our 12 days of Advent project,” Catherine added.

Meanwhile, Girlguiding will be marking national campaign #iwill on November 23.
