“I’d known Eddie for about 30 years; he was a friendly guy, very easy to talk to,” Mr Milligan said.

“He had a good heart and was always there to help anyone in trouble.”

A retired plumber, Mr Girvan developed a lasting interest in mechanics and engines during his youth.

“Eddie was very good at anything he turned his hand to,” Mr Milligan added. “He was into antiques as well and loved going around the antique shops in the area.”

Mr Girvan was interred at Victoria Cemetery in Carrickfergus. He is survived by his two daughters, Martina and Mandy.
