Mr McGuckin said the school was deeply saddened to learn of the death of past chairman Charles Johnston on February 24, 2015.

“Charlie was a most dedicated chairman of the school for 28 years, having the best interests of the pupils and staff at heart at all times. He worked alongside Brian Stirling (past principal) for 26 years, and together they ran the school in an exemplary fashion,” he said.

“I was thoroughly looking forward to working with Charlie when I became principal in April 2014, but sadly that was not to be.

“I met Charlie on a number of occasions prior to taking up my post, and soon realised that he was a gentleman and a great asset to the school. The wider school community will miss Charlie Johnston and our thoughts are with Mrs Johnston and the family circle.”
