Groups awarded over £430k

PEACE III Southern Cluster has awarded £435,500 to community, voluntary and sporting groups across the Southern Cluster through the Strategic Grants Programme.

This project is part-financed by the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund through the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation (PEACE III) managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

PEACE III Southern Partnership Strategic Grants programme aims to establish initiatives that will improve mutual respect and understanding and reduce levels of sectarianism and racism.

To date £435,500 has been awarded to projects that will work across the Southern Cluster, the projects will promote good relations and peace building using a variety of techniques, including sports, drama, training, arts and much more.

Councilor William Burns and Doctor James Mc Cammick, Chairs of the PEACE III Southern Partnership, are delighted that PEACE III can support communities across the Southern Cluster in making a difference. Councilor William Burns said: “The standard of applications received by the Strategic Grants programme was incredibly high. We are delighted to be able to invest in these innovative and creative projects that showcase how important partnership working is when developing programmes that promote good relations work across the Southern Cluster.”

Doctor James McCammick explained that groups will have another opportunity to apply to the grants programme.

He said, “PEACE III Southern Partnership has opened the next stage of the Strategic Grants programme and are inviting applications from appropriate groups and organisations working in the Southern Cluster region to apply.

“I would encourage groups that are interested in peace building and partnership work to contact the PEACE III Partnership for an information pack.”

Projects interested in applying to the Strategic Grants must demonstrate an active partnership approach and cross community participation. Project budgets must total a minimum of £50,000 and be no more than £80,000 and be delivered over a 12 month period from October 2012 – October 2013.
