‘Growing Roses’ at Ballymena Garden Club

A capacity audience attended the November meeting of Ballymena Garden Club to hear Roy Moore talk about “Growing Roses”.

Having paid a summer vist several years ago to Roy’s garden near Larne and having seen the standard of his rose display, members were eager to pick up tips from the local expert in rose cultivation.

He stated that there is a rose for every occasion and situation, and proceeded to draw on examples of rose types and varieties to exemplify this statement.

Regarding having success with roses, he dealt in detail with soil requirements, feeding, pruning, and spraying to control insect pests and diseases.

The Club’s next meeting will be held in Houston’s Mill, Broughshane, on Monday, December 3, at 7.30 pm. This will take the form of a members’ Christmas social evening when there will be a floral art demonstration with a Christmas theme, a quiz and musical entertainment. A light supper will be served.
