A NEW travel guide has been launched to promote the Londonderry to Coleraine rail journey - described by travel writer Michael Palin as "one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world."

The Translink NI Railways train journey between Londonderry and Coleraine lasts 45 minutes and boasts stunning scenery and a wealth of exciting destinations to stop-off in and explore.

The area is rich in natural heritage and abundant in charming towns and villages with everything from shops and cafes to sandy beaches and historical landmarks.

Translink Brand Manager Louise Scott explained that the train journey and local bus connections offer an excellent platform to enjoy the unique landscape and local attractions: "We have worked together with local councils, Derry Visitor and Convention Bureau, the National Trust, Derry's White Horse Hotel, Ilex and Causeway Coast and Glens Tourism to showcase this area.

"Whether it's a couple's retreat, an excursion with friends or a family day trip, this new travel guide sets out just how much there is to see and do in this beautiful region of Northern Ireland - From the vibrant walled City of Derry to the peaceful golden sands of Benone Strand; the impressive Binevenagh Mountain and cliffs at Downhill featuring Ireland's longest railway tunnels to the charm of old and new found side by side in Coleraine.

"From Coleraine, visitors can simply hop onboard one of our local bus services travelling through the magnificent Causeway Coast with Bushmills Distillery, Dunluce Castle, Carrick-a-Rede rope Bridge and The Giant's Causeway all waiting to be explored.

"Coastal towns such as Ballycastle, Portstewart and Portrush also offer that wonderful local seaside hospitality.
