Guinness pint for six pence

A PINT of Guinness cost just six pence back in December 1975 - but there was a catch.

It was that the drinker had to pay with the old six pennies and not with the new decimal coins.

If you had the old sixpence then you could get a creamy pint of Guinness at Norman’s bar in Moira.

Former Welsh international and Glenavon goalkeeper Tony Millington managed the bar.

He explained: “It all began with an old enamel bar sign we had, advertising a pint for sixpence.

“After the decimal coins were introduced, it just seemed like a good idea to offer a sixpenny pint.

“It’s a good gimmick and certainly raises a few eyebrows - especially when strangers come into the bar.”

But the thoughts of ‘getting rightly’ on a few bob were not on as the offer was limited to two pints a man.
