Gull-winged cavalcade

DRIVERS between Belfast and Carrickfergus witnessed an unusual sight on Thursday as a cavalcade of DeLorean DMC-12 cars made its way to the town for the DeLorean Eurofest 2011.

DeLorean owners from across Europe gathered to mark the 30th anniversary of the distinctive vehicle, made famous by the Back to the Future films in the late 80s and early 90s.

Featuring gull-wing doors and a brushed stainless steel body, the car was manufactured in Dumurry until the factory’s closure in 1982.

“It’s certainly a great sight to have all the cars lined up beside the castle, and I’d like to welcome the DeLorean owners from across Europe to the town,” said Mayor of Carrickfergus, Alderman Jim McClurg.
