Gunmen hold up a bureau de change

GUNMEN robbed a substantial sum of money from a bureau de change in Londonderry on Wednesday night before escaping across the border to Donegal.

Up to four men carrying guns entered the premises on Buncrana Road at about 8pm on Wednesday.

They ordered staff to hand over cash before making off.

A red Toyota van thought to have been used in the robbery was found burned out a short time later just across the border in the Mannerstown Cross area near Grianan of Aileach.

SDLP Derry City Councillor Shaun Gallagher appealed for people to bring information forward to the police.

The Shantallow Councillor said: "People in the area are shocked and alarmed at this incident.

"I and fellow SDLP Councillors had just finished canvassing homes in the area shortly before the incident.

"It was undoubtedly an extremely traumatic experience for the staff involved and thankfully no one was injured.

"I would urge anyone who saw a van at the bureau de change around 8pm or witnessed masked men entering the building or acting suspiciously around the Buncrana Road and Mannerstown Cross area to come forward to the police.

"It imperative that those responsible for this crime are apprehended and brought to justice before they strike again."
