'Had just got car'

A MAN who drove without insurance had six penalty points placed on his licence and was fined £200.

Ariel Kalek (30), from Market Street, Tandragee admitted the offence at Thursday's sitting of Craigavon Magistrates Court.

The court was told Kalek was stopped at a checkpoint on the Mahon Road, Portadown at 11pm on July 24.

He said he had "just bought the car a few minutes ago". The vehicle was seized as it was not injured.

The defending solicitor said Kalek's previous car had been fully documented and he had just purchased the new car on the day he was detected.

He pointed out it had cost Kalek 250 to have the vehicle released. The solicitor added Kalek now had insurance for the car. District Judge Mr Alan White said he wouldn't disqualify Kalek from driving and imposed the fine and points instead.
