Had no insurance for tractor

Police stopped a Dromore man for using a mobile phone while driving a tractor and discovered hehad no insurance.

Peter Joseph McGreevy (55), Tonaghmore Road, was fined £250 for the offence at Banbridge Court.

He was also given six penalty points.

On December 20 he was seen using the phone while driving a tractor on the Castlewellan Road. McGreevy was asked for his insurance and was unable to produce it. Later he admitted he did not have insurance.

A defence solicitor said McGreevy’s son kept cows and they had run out of bales to feed them.

He added that the tractor was never on the road and used only on the land. His sister had called and he answered the phone.

The solicitor said McGreevy had since got insurance if he ever needed to go out on the road.
